A Recap of All Things Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

by Elizabeth Kookarkin |

What a week! I can’t believe that Gabdala was invited to the biggest week in fashion in Australia! Of course, I have to be talking about the famous Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, with brands like Camilla and Alice McCall showing Australia the peak of the latest fashion trends. Keep reading to see what I did over the span of the week, and the shows I thought were hits!

On Day 1, full of excitement and nerves, Alex stepped into the complex, ready for the day’s events. The atmosphere was like nothing else, and it was so amazing to be there, once again. Alex was lucky enough to see the ‘Swim’ show, which showcased the peak of swimming fashion. There was a large focus on block prints, however there were a number of wild prints to balance out the collections. There was also an emphasis across the collection on higher waisted bikini bottoms, as well as a balance between one piece and two piece swimming sets. We absolutely loved the size range of the models, however we do believe, as a brand that focuses on inclusive fashion, there should have been a wider range of sizes to include everyone. The highlight of Day 1, however, was not the fashion, but meeting actress Nathalie Kelley, who has starred in movies such as The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and recurring roles such as Krystal Carrington on Dynasty and Sybil on The Vampire Diaries. STARSTRUCK!

While we were not able to attend Day 2 and Day 5, the other 3 days were absolutely fantastic! Day 3 was just as amazing as Day 1, where Alex went to the St George NextGen show earlier in the morning and the FDS: The Innovators show later in the afternoon. These were both amazing shows, with strong focuses on out-there concepts and the meshing of pattern and colour, creating looks everyone in the crowd thoroughly enjoyed.

Day 4 was an absolute whirlwind of fashion and excitement, as Alex had access to almost all of the runways! While she didn’t get to see the Camilla runway (probably, I would argue, the best runway), the fashion Alex did see was absolutely fantastic!

It was truly an honour to be invited to attend this fashion week, as it has allowed us to gain a deeper appreciation for why we entered this business - for the fashion and for the dream. As a small business, it shows how much we have grown and developed in the last 3 years, and how much we can still grow. Thank you to everyone at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for an amazing experience we, as a brand, will never forget.
